More Macklemore, less Robin Thicke.

And yet a huge percentage of Tumblr hates him. Not trying to be confrontational, but could someone please explain to me why this is?

How could you hate him?

Because Macklemore preaches a lot of stuff people of color, non-straight and lady artists and so on have been singing and doing for decades and when he popped up (and in a subpar, condescending way), people gave him this crown and scepter of preacher of issues, as if no other artist, specially one that goes over the concerns he mentions affect him or her directly, has done it before.

Also remember that often people aren’t critical of HIM on his own, but more how the media and consumers of music treat him vs. black hip-hop/rap artists.

It’s because he sucks at rapping.

Because white people clung to him as the paragon of LGBT issues and sucked his dick while shitting on black rappers and the whole of the black community for being homophobic while ignoring the Black LGBT rappers that have fucking existed before his whack ass even showed up on the map, as well as the Black rappers who have been pro LGBT rights.

Yeah except that’s a consumer problem and not Macklemore’s fault.
Like, if people are holding him up as a messiah for doing something, how is that his fault? He’s speaking on issues that are important to him, and he wants to make a difference, and everyone shits all over him because of the way other people react to it? Okay.

Welp, YMBNSB, while you are right in saying that shitting on the support he gets is wrong, Macklemore is problematic in a number of otherways. The issue isn’t that he’s a straight ally who wants to advocate rights for the LGBTQ community, but how that support has manifested itself.
He claims that the Hip Hop community is homophobic, basically erasing the identities of queer rappers and hip hop artists and homogenizing the life experiences of the hip hop community. There have been a number of queer rappers and artists in said community like Mykki Blanco, Cakes the Killer, Angel Haze, and Le1ft (whose beat Macklemore allegedly stole). Yet Macklemore basically takes a huge shit on all of them. In an interview regarding “Same Love” Macklemore said “misogyny and homophobia are the two acceptable means of oppression in hip hop culture. It’s 2012. There needs to be some accountability. I think that as a society we’re evolving and I think that hip hop has always been a representation of what’s going on in the world right now” [x] Like, what? Don’t insert yourself into a culture that has largely, for a long period of time, consisted of PoC (mainly, black people) just to turn their efforts against them. Jay-Z and Kanye rap about what it’s like being a black man in society, Nicki Minaj about being a black woman, and let’s not forget about queer Black hip hop artists/rappers Azealia Banks, and Frank Ocean (remember how monumental it was when Ocean came out; as an openly queer artist in mainstream Hip Hop?).
Macklemore’s song features the talents of Mary Lambert, a lesbian woman whose experiences are more true to life than the hypotheticals he proposed in his song. Yet, when he wins an award for being the “best video with a message” Mary Lambert gets completely shafted. The least he could’ve done was thank the efforts of queer artists and rappers in the hip hop industry, especially to Ms. Lambert, who contributed to the song. That would’ve taken two seconds.
ANd also, what the fuck? “I thought I was gay ‘cause I could draw”? What the fuck kind of revelation is that?Anyway, here’s some tumblr links that put it more eloquently than I could have [x][x][x]

Thank you, I get it now. The way you put it explained it a little better and more clearly. I understand. Thanks for taking the time to link me with some info, I appreciate it!

Thank you!! I was reading some of the above arguments, and felt like some of them didn’t get the point across 100%. Thanks for listening :)

Rambling of what I would call a successful opening night of Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog

So, it’s really late and I’m only slightly tired, and I haven’t updated you guys in a while, so I’m just gonna type until I run out of things to talk about; sounds good? Okay?

College seems to be falling into place. I can spend an extra year at home, I can get used to driving before being thrown into a bigger city (where I’m going for University) and have to either sink or swim.

Also, things don’t seem as bad as they were in the last month and a half. I’m genuinely more happy (yes, I do still get those moments where I’m blue, but they’re becoming fewer and more far in between =)

I’m really enjoying all of my classes so far, which is UBER important when it comes to schools and such. If the student isn’t enjoying the classroom/material that’s being taught, then they will never enjoy learning from that teacher or that specific teacher, which will impede them on their journey to a higher education or work.

It’s amazing how much a few things can take up your whole life. A couple friends and I are currently in the muiscal called Dr. Horrible with Neil Patrick Harris, and the like. This is so much fun! The people involved in it are amazing!

So, the musical, and college, are two main places that are taking up basically my whole life—the other place is my work. Yes, I only work a few hours a day (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday) but I mean, there’s really not much I can do after work (it closes at 5 and I’m getting bored with (tbh I was never reallly into the whole “let’s drink till we puke…AND THEN KEEP DRINKING!! Yeaaaaaahhh!!) but yeah, the drinking thing was never my scene.

Anyway, I’m more tired, now. Thanks for letting me chat your ear (eyes?) off! night ;D

Haven

I just finished the new episode of Haven and like just blaaah!!! It’s gotten me thinking about the whole story of the bolt gun killer.
Grr…I don’t want to wait a week for this shit to clear itself up!

tumblrbot Asked:
WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL BETTER WHEN YOU ARE IN A BAD MOOD?

Hey, tumblrbot! A warm blanket, a nice show to watch, book to read, or song to listen to can usually do the trick for me :)
